A Critique of the Theory of Abrogation
A typical definition of abrogation found in the jurisprudence literature is "the (heavenly) replacement of one juridical ruling with a later ruling." This book surveys the subject of abrogation (naskh) in the Quran, hadith, and Islamic literature, illustrating that the concept of abrogation was introduced after the prophetic era in order to explain certain verses of the Quran and what has come to be termed as conflicting prophetic narrations (mukhtalaf al-hadith). It goes on to suggest that the abrogated rulings were merely pre-Islamic cultural practices that contradicted Islamic principles. Furthermore, the book argues that the Quranic verses and prophetic narrations that were misperceived as conflicting should be contextually situated and applied according to the wisdom behind them, with the practical implication being the validation of all Quranic verses and (authentic) prophetic instructions, regardless of their perceived contradictions, allowing Islamic jurisprudence to retain its flexibility within changing circumstances.

A Life with The Divine
Tradesmen look at buildings differently, depending on their trade: The carpenter casts an eye on the woodwork, the bricklayer on the brickwork and the painter on the walls and ceilings. Similarly, the greater a person's perception of Allah's names, the greater their alertness and understanding of life. Nothing passes them by, without thought and contemplation. When they see a display of mercy, they automatically and very naturally reflect on the names of Allah; Al-Rahim" (The Most Merciful), Al-Ra'uf (The Pitying), Al-Wadud (The Affectionate). When they sense might and awe, they are overcome with the names "Al-Jabbar" (The Compeller), "Al-Muntaqim" (The Avenger) and "Al-Qahhar" (The Subduer). Eventually, they reach a station where every scene that unfolds, any sin which presents itself or any opportunity that drifts by, becomes a trigger for perusal and the remembrance of Allah, the achievement of which is precisely the objective of this book. Author Bio Shaikh Ali Ihsan Hammuda resides in the UK and is originally from Palestine. He gained bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Architecture & Planning before achieving a BA in Shari'ah from al-Azhar University in Egypt. He is currently based in Wales and is a visiting Imām at Al-Manar Centre in Cardiff, and also a senior researcher and lecturer for the Muslim Research & Development Foundation in London. Shaykh Ali is the author of several books and delivers sermons, lectures and regular classes across the country.

A Treasury of Sacred Maxims: A Commentary on Legal Principles
This inspiring collection of sacred maxims is drawn from the genre known in Arabic as al-qawā‘id al-fiqhiyyah. These maxims are pithy sayings that Islamic scholars use as a guide for Islamic practice in a wide range of areas, from the rituals of worship to financial transactions. Though technically translated as “legal maxims”, the array of topics these maxims cover encompass the core ethical principles at the heart of the Shariah. Given its concision, each maxim is rich in meaning, and the commentary provided by Dr Shahrul Hussain gives us a glimpse into the maxim’s significance. The commentaries, written by a Western Islamic scholar, bring out the relevance of each maxim to the English speaking reader. This latest instalment in Kube’s Treasury Series in Islamic Thought and Civilisation, will help deepen the understanding of key aspects of Shariah in its legal and ethical dimensions.

Al-Adab al-Mufrad with Full Commentary: A Perfect Code of Manners and Morality (Paperback)
Al-Adab al-Mufrad, an anthology of 1329 hadiths, is a treasured work in Muslim history by one of its most respected scholars, Imam Bukhari. In preparing this selection of hadiths Imam Bukhari set out a model to follow for successful relations within the Muslim community as well as interaction between Muslims and non-Muslims based on the Prophetic example and that of Muhammad's closest companions. All of the hadiths are directly related to the standards of manners and morality Islam wants to prevail, and Muslims throughout the world have been guided by it since its preparation over a millennia ago. Famed for the reliability and strength of his work, Imam Bukhari exclusively used hadith that do not go below the grade of "Good" (or "Hasan"), and since they are focused on manners and moral values, they are upheld by scholars. What distinguishes the present work is that it includes a contemporary commentary, clearly emphasizing the relevance of the Prophet's teachings in our modern and complex societies. This pioneering addition marks it out as perhaps the first English work commenting on and explaining a full anthology of hadiths. The translator and author of the commentaries, Adil Salahi, has a long history of research in the seerah and hadith, and he wrote extensively on both. This work puts together the best of his writings on the Prophet's teachings in the area of morality and private and social manners.

Builders of a Nation بناة الأمة
Historically, women have been an integral part of spreading our Deen. They have contributed as mothers, wives, supporters, and defenders of our religion. This book offers readers a glimpse into the lives of thirty-seven remarkable women, from the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) household to female companions and pioneers of Islamic history. A deliberate effort has been made in selecting these women. They are diverse, yet their roots are the same: consciousness of Allah (SWT), unwavering obedience to Him, and a commitment to benefit their communities with the blessings bestowed upon them. Whether it is the vast knowledge of ʿĀ’ishah, the piety and fasting of Ḥafṣah, the warrior spirit of Nusaybah, or the pioneering medical care of Rufaydah, each woman featured in this book can serve as a role model in education, motherhood, and practicing faith. They are truly deserving of the title Builders of a Nation. The book is divided into three main sections. The first section focuses on the wives and daughters of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the key figures in his blessed household. The second section highlights the women around the Prophet ﷺ—the female Companions—who played pivotal roles in shaping Islamic society and actively contributed to the construction of a new nation, each bringing their unique qualities and strengths. The final section showcases a selection of extraordinary Muslim women throughout history, each harnessing distinct gifts from Allah to serve the Ummah. These women made significant contributions through education, raising children, nurturing scholars, or being scholars themselves, and in doing so helped shape the world. These remarkable women have left immense blessings upon us. The least we can do is learn about their lives and share their stories so that others, too, can be inspired by their example. "I sincerely hope this book will remind you how far and wide the ripple effects of your good deeds will travel, strengthening and advancing the nation you inherit." About the Author Dr. Haifaa Younis is an American Board-Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist with roots in Iraq. She is the founder, Chairman, and resident scholar at Jannah Institute and also serves as a Resident Scholar at the Islamic Center of Irvine, California. Dr. Younis studied Arabic and Islamic studies, graduating from the Mecca Institute of Islamic Studies and Al-Huda Qur’an Memorization School, where she completed the memorization of the Qur’an. Currently, she lives and works in the United States, teaching various courses focusing on purification of the heart (Tazkiyah).

Come to Prayer
What inspired you to write this story? More than 20 years ago, long before I imagined that I could be a published author, I was watching a cricket match on TV in which the commentator mentioned that the weather that day was windy in Rawalpindi (Pakistan). I was amused by the rhyme in that statement and found myself contemplating the possibility of writing a rhyming book one day about weather around the world. The thought remained at the back of my mind over the years but I never did anything about it as there didn’t seem to be much essence to the initial idea. Many years later when I joined a Muslimah writers’ course, I wanted to write a book for children about attaching their hearts to the masjid and the congregational prayer. I was inspired by community and family members who refused to miss their congregational prayers despite challenging conditions which included flooding in the neighbourhood during winter or heat and smoke due to the surrounding mountains burning during summer. I was convinced that in every neighbourhood where there is a mosque, in every city, in every country, there are people who uphold their congregational prayers diligently despite trying conditions and I wanted to honour these people as well as inspire others to be like them. The common challenge of weather, the conditions being different in different countries, seemed to be a perfect common thread in the context of world cities. It was such an exciting moment for me when I realised that I could tie my longstanding weather rhyme idea into a book about being consistent with the congregational prayer and the book took off from there, Alhamdulillah. Unfortunately, windy Rawalpindi didn’t make it into the book, as more intriguing examples of cities and their weather conditions cropped up as I researched countries around the world. What’s your favourite moment in the book and why? I’ll be a bit vague about my favourite part as I don’t want to spoil the surprise at the end of the book. After the spread about the Isha prayer, something happens that demonstrates the unifying nature of salaah and worship in Islam, connecting Muslims on a global scale. I love the entire book, but the ending tops it off in the perfect way. You’ll have to read the book to find out what it is! What are some important messages or conversational points your book inspires? The importance of upholding the five daily prayers in congregation as mentioned in a number of Hadith. Salaah & Islamic worship as a globally unifying phenomenon – regardless of cultural and environmental differences. Striving to uphold good practices and persevering in doing so. Love for and attachment to the masjid, the house of Allah. Leaving off worldly pursuits and overcoming obstacles to answer the call to prayer. Why does coming to the prayer equate to coming to success? Families striving together in pursuit of good deeds. The masjid as a place for families. Mosque architecture styles around the world. Mosques around the world can vary vastly in size and form but worshippers go there for the same purpose. Diversity of Muslim populations around the world. Different climatic/weather conditions around the world. What’s unique about this story? Come to Prayer is a creative non-fiction, all-in-one journey through culture, weather, geography, religion and even architecture as a day in the life of Muslims from five different cities on five different continents, centred on the five daily prayers is highlighted. Different layers of information are woven together in a simple, rhyming format to inspire, entertain and educate young ones about the importance of salaah as well as other issues of discussion as listed above. Even though the text is simple and child-friendly, it contains a wealth of (researched) information that could lead to hours of beneficial discussion. While I was researching mosques and Muslim communities around the world, I was personally intrigued by the fact that Muslim communities and their places of worship existed in places where I, in my childhood, would not have expected to find Muslims living, such as Iceland and Brazil. I hope that this book inspires others to do their own research and find out more about Muslims as well as mosques across the globe and what makes us all part of a single ummah. If you had to describe it in one sentence, what would it be? No matter where in the world, no matter what the weather, when the time for prayer sets in, the devout leave their homes to pray together at the masjid. Why did you choose these specific locations in the story? The book features the people and cities of six different countries on five different continents. I did this deliberately in an attempt to represent the Muslims of the whole world as well as locate the prayer throughout the world. After a painstaking exercise of listing all the countries in the world as well as their major cities, then picking out cities with names that not only rhymed with different weather conditions, but also contained an actual mosque, I eventually settled on what I considered the five best places for the vision of the book. I also deliberately chose cities with unique and interesting sounding names for the purposes of entertaining children who never heard these names before as well as hold their fascination and intrigue.

Communicating with Allah: Rediscovering Prayer (Salah)
Muslims are required to pray five times a day, but for too many of us these are little more than physical movements devoid of any spirit or divine connection. In contrast, the Prophet characterized prayer as “the spiritual ascent (mi'raj) of the believer.” In a modern world of constant distraction, how are we to achieve the communion with the Divine that prayer is supposed to be? How can we reach the state of the Prophet who would ask his companion Bilal to give the call to prayer with the expression: “Give us repose through it, Oh Bilal.” The present short but valuable work provides us with the answer. Dr. Bassam Saeh, a scholar of the Arabic language, casts a refreshing new perspective on prayer in the modern context. Dear Mother… brings together mothers of all ages and backgrounds in a compendium of fictional letters, written from the heart. Great challenges and responsibilities, hopes and disappointments are explored without apology. As one mother prepares for a new-born, another shares her experience of being a single parent. Why is a mother at the primary school gate feeling burnt out by 9 am and what advice does a grandmother pass down to her granddaughter? Whether she’s sitting in the ante-natal clinic, on a bus or in the masjid, these letters reveal a variety of mothers’ inner dialogue – one which is rarely heard in society. Suma Din is an author and freelance researcher based in Buckinghamshire, England. Her titles focus on social justice, education, faith and women. She taught in the supplementary and adult education sector for many years and wrote non-fiction resources for children. One of her writing passions is to bring marginalized voices to the fore, as she did through her book on Muslim mothers and their children's schooling. Finding Peace in the Holy Land - A British Muslim Memoir
Finding Peace in the Holy Land is a spiritual adventure story which begins in the quiet London suburb of Hampstead in the 1970s. Lauren’s father is a famous actor and political militant. Penniless and unable to pay the rent, he tells her that changing the world is the reason for living. After her early faith is shattered by a mysterious fire, Lauren paddles the shallows of celebrity life, where her political opinions pit her against her brother-in-law, who just happens to be Prime Minister Tony Blair. This rare and relevant memoir is told with brisk honesty and sharp humor. It is a dramatic life story from the suburbs of North London to the olive groves of the Holy Land, from handball with Hamas to breaking a deadly siege by land and by sea. It tracks the singular journey of a one-time party girl and part-time Christian to the quiet, teetotal life of a devout believer in the teachings of the Arabian Prophet.

For Whom the Troubadour Sings
Dawud Wharnsby Ali's unconventional approaches to writing and religion challenge paradigms of how we look at our own lives in relation to others and the world through which we all journey. This book collects together all the lyrics that have inspired communities of all faiths around the world for over two decades. Dawud’s work as a writer, inspired in part by his deep respect for spiritual scriptures and the Qur'an in particular. Dawud Wharnsby's recordings and reputation have established him as an institution in the realm of English language Nasheed (spiritual songs of a world-rhythm/folk style, drawn from Islamic cultural and musical roots). In true folk-song tradition, his writings have taken on a life of their own - spreading far beyond officially targeted territories by way of a bootleg industry which circulates his recordings unofficially and uncontrollably throughout the world. Though distribution of Wharnsby's material is difficult to gage, his efforts have spawned an artistic movement and musical industry of young artists hailing from Los Angeles, London, Jakarta and all stops in between.Review:“Dawud Wharnsby’s poems are the very essence of a spiritual journey – words for our minds and words for our hearts.” - Tariq RamadanExcerpt:There was nothing more to say. There was sun-snow as I drove away.Back home was the only place to go,and I did not know,I would never see her after that day

Gaza: Stay Human
Gaza: Stay Human is an authoritative and deeply moving eyewitness account of the terrible 22-day Israeli offensive against the people of the Gaza Strip in 2008-9. Vittorio Arrigoni, a volunteer with the pacifist International Solidarity Movement, served as a human shield while working with the Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances during the offensive. As a freelance journalist with the Italian Daily Il Manifesto, Arrigoni's daily dispatches, written between bombing raids and patchy internet access, ended with the plea, 'stay human', which became the motto of anti-Israeli peace protests in his native Italy. The English translation is updated to include Arrigoni's new dispatches on the difficult situation in Gaza after Operation 'Cast Lead' and features a preface by the renowned Israeli historian and human rights activist, Ilan Pappe.''It is first and foremost an eyewitness account of an everyman and a true humanist. ... Vittorio Arrigoni volunteered with the International Solidarity Movement to help the people of Gaza as part of its mission to protect human rights. He was there during and after Operation 'Cast Lead' and so his daily dispatches came directly from the killing fields of Gaza, and are therefore free of any media distortion or manipulation.''~Ilan Pappe, Professor of History, University of Exeter.

I Say Bismillah
Bismillah is probably the most-used term in a Muslim's religious vocabulary. Muslims are told to use it before doing anything. Bismillah means "in the name of God." This series aims to introduce the most common Islamic terms to children in a fun and simple way. In each book, examples are given, the characters repeat the phrase, and a simple translation and explanation is provided at the end. We expect this to be popular with Muslim parents. Our I Can series includes a number of our best-selling titles, and this is similar in many respects: it offers Islamic value, it is a board book, and it is targeted at toddlers and young children. The characters are cute and stylish and will be appealing to children. A box set with all four books will be available in the future. It will include the following books: I Say As-Salamu 'Alaykum, I Say Mashallah, I Say Bismillah, and I Say Alhamdulillah.
