السلسلة القصصية للفتيات والفتيان تتكون من العناوين التالية : يوم خارج المدرسة أربع مشكلات يواجهها أربعة فتيان ظرفاء في أربع قصص مستقلة يتضمنها الكتاب وسط مغامرات ومواقف مثيرة، يثبتون خلالها أنّهم جديرون بالإعجاب. لماذا سكت النهر يعتمد زكريا تامر في هذه القصص على البساطة والخيال التي عُرِف بهما أسلوبه، مقدّماً كلمات وعبارات مليئة بالموسيقى الحلوة، ما من شأنه أن يزيد متعة القرّاء بالحكايات والمواقف الغنيّة الواردة في الكتاب. قالت الوردة للسنونو يضمّ هذا الكتاب ثماني عشرة قصة قصيرة. يعتمد الكاتب فيها على البساطة في عرض المواقف، وعلى الروح التربوية الراقية لترسيخ الضمير اليقظ لدى القارئ عيشتكم أحلى مقارنة بين الأيام الماضية والأيام الحاضرة، من خلال حديث بين الجد والأحفاد، فيتعرّف الطفل كل مظاهر الحياة الاجتماعية القديمة، والتطورات التي طرأت عليها الجمل الجميل يحكي هذا الكتاب قصة الجمل، الذي عانى من رفض الآخرين له، بسبب عدم رغبته القيام بالأعمال العادية، إلاّ أنّه لم يحبط ويحقّق إنجازاً خاصاً به، يناسب طموحه ويعيد لنفسه الثقة. عودة العصافير عادت الأفعى من جديد، وتمكّنت من السيطرة على الغابة وطرد أبنائها، تساعدها في ذلك أدواتها من غربان سود، ونسر أعماه جوع وجشع. لكن العصفور »سوسو« يقرّر العودة إلى الغابة. الحكيم الثامن قصة تراثية متخيّلة بأسلوب زكريا تامر، الذي يتميّز بلغته وقدرته على جذب الانتباه. مضمون الحكاية يتعلّق بالماء وأهميته وترشيد استعماله.. امتحان إنه امتحان من نوع آخر.. امتحان في الحياة. يعيشه مجموعة من الأصدقاء الراسبين عندما يزوّرون دفتر العلامات، ثم يغيّرون رأيهم بحثاً عن النجاح الحقيقي. الدراجة الزرقاء يواجه بطل القصّة مشكلة في ركوب دراجته الزرقاء الجديدة، التي تسير على دولابين، ويقرّر إهداءها إلى ابن عمّه كريم، وبعد ذلك يندم على وعده، ويرغب الاحتفاظ بها عندما يصبح بارعاً في ركوبها. وتحدث المفاجأة أن عمّه يُنقذ الموقف. سيرة الحمار الأخير غادر الحمار "أبو موزة" حظيرته، بعد أن كان ملازماً لها طوال سنوات باحثاً عن لقمة طعام في أرجاء القرية، فوجدها قد تغيّرت تماماً، والبيدر تحوّل إلى ورشة عمل. ومن خلال سرده لسيرته يخبرنا عن أحوال قريته. وتتبدّد أحزانه عندما تخبئ له الأحداث مفاجأة جيّدة في نهاية القصّة. الأصدقاء الأعداء يحدث شجار بين بطل القصة وأحبّ أصدقائه، ولم يلبث هذا الشّجار أن تحوّل إلى تماسك بالأيدي وعراك، ونتج عنه خصام بين الصديقين، وقطيعة تستمرّ طويلاً، إلى أن تصل رسالة إلى الصديقين، وتحدث المفاجأة في نهاية القصّة. على أبواب الصين يتناول هذا الكتاب نصاً تاريخياً مثيراً وطريفاً، جامِعاً بين المغزى الإنساني والأخلاقي الذي يحفل به تراثنا وبين القصّة الجذابة والمسلية. لست لصاً يقدّم لنا هذا الكتاب تجربة فتى يجد محفظة في الشارع، فيخوض مغامرة إعادتها لصاحبها ممّا لاقى ردود فعل كثيرة أثنت على عمله وهنّأته، ما دعاه إلى الاستغراب والاندهاش، وطرح تساؤلات مفتوحة كثيرة. التفاحة يتناول هذا الكتاب تجربة ممتعة يمرّ بها فتى عندما يحاول استعادة كرة سقطت في حديقة قريبة من ملعب المدرسة، فيخوض صراعاً داخلياً لا يلبث أن يحسمه إيجاباً، إلاّ أنّه يقع في سوء فهم ليخوض مجدّداً مغامرة إثبات براءته.
