  • Towards Understanding the Qur'an (Abridged Version, English only)

Towards Understanding the Qur'an (Abridged Version, English only)

Towards Understanding the Qur’an; Abridged version of Tafhim al-Qur’an is a fresh English rendering of Sayyid Mawdüdi’s monumental and masterly Urdu translation of the Qur’an with a selection of commentary (Qur’an appears in English). Here is a work with a difference by a scholar of an entirely different sort. An immense wealth of profound understanding of the Qur’an is here with deep insights and a valuable exposition of social, political, economic, and legal teachings of the Qur’an. But what makes this work unique is that it translates the Qur’an as a book to be lived by, a mission to be lived for, and a duty that readers can no longer evade or postpone. This rare quality is imparted not only by the depth of his scholarship and style of exposition, but also because Sayyid Mawdudi lived by this understanding of the Qur’an. Despite being an abridged version, this book endeavors to answer many contemporary questions and makes the Qur’an fully relevant to the concerns of our day since it loses nothing of its timelessness or sacrifices any of the traditional understanding. It demonstrates the unity and coherence of the Qur’an by centering everything on its message, like gems hung on a single string. A glossary, biographical notes, general and subject indexes also add to the understanding of the Qur’an. In summary, this work by Sayyid Mawdudi is offering us what we need most to understand and live by, the Qur’an. The Minaret Speaks

The Minaret Speaks uses an effective device to portray the cycle of events in the Indian subcontinent's Islamic History. It highlights the achievements of successful rulers and the failures of others and also focuses on the demise of Muslim power in the wake of British imperialism. Muslims living outside the subcontinent particularly in the West will appreciate this enlightened portrayal of British onslaught on Islam in India. • Forty Hadiths

    Forty Hadiths

In this book, the adeeth is used to facilitate the learning of the Arabic language. To achieve this, forty hadeeth narrations, of varying lengths, were included in order to help students develop a better understanding of the language. Two stories, considered the most beautiful in Islamic history, were also added: the Muslim migration to Abyssinia, the Al-Najashi story, and Salman Al-Farisi’s long search for truth. Because the modern ways of teaching languages depend on texts for syntax explanation, each syntax issue mentioned includes a full explanation after each hadeeth. The most important vocabulary words are also provided. The vocabulary explanations are enhanced by various exercises. Some are designed for comprehension and others for testing the student in the areas of language and syntax.

  • Knowing Too Much: Why the American Jewish Romance with Israel Is Coming to an End

Knowing Too Much: Why the American Jewish Romance with Israel Is Coming to an End

Traditionally, American Jews have been broadly liberal in their political outlook; indeed African-Americans are the only ethnic group more likely to vote Democratic in US elections. Over the past half century, however, attitudes on one topic have stood in sharp contrast to this group’s generally progressive stance: support for Israel. Despite Israel’s record of militarism, illegal settlements and human rights violations, American Jews have, stretching back to the 1960s, remained largely steadfast supporters of the Jewish “homeland.” But, as Norman Finkelstein explains in an elegantly-argued and richly-textured new book, this is now beginning to change. Reports by Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the United Nations, and books by commentators as prominent as President Jimmy Carter and as well-respected in the scholarly community as Stephen Walt, John Mearsheimer and Peter Beinart, have increasingly pinpointed the fundamental illiberalism of the Israeli state. In the light of these exposes, the support of American Jews for Israel has begun to fray. This erosion has been particularly marked among younger members of the community. A 2010 Brandeis University poll found that only about one quarter of Jews aged under 40 today feel “very much” connected to Israel. In successive chapters that combine Finkelstein’s customary meticulous research with polemical brio, Knowing Too Much sets the work of defenders of Israel such as Jeffrey Goldberg, Michael Oren, Dennis Ross and Benny Morris against the historical record, showing their claims to be increasingly tendentious. As growing numbers of American Jews come to see the speciousness of the arguments behind such apologias and recognize Israel’s record as simply indefensible, Finkelstein points to the opening of new possibilities for political advancement in a region that for decades has been stuck fast in a gridlock of injustice and suffering. About The Author Norman G. Finkelstein received his doctorate in 1988 from the Department of Politics at Princeton University. For many years he taught political theory and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Finkelstein is the author of eight books besides this one, which have been translated into more than 40 foreign editions: What Gandhi Says: About Nonviolence, Resistance and Courage (OR Books, 2012); This Time We Went Too Far: Truth and Consequences of the Gaza Invasion (OR Books, 2010, expanded paperback edition, 2011); Goldstone Recants: Richard Goldstone Renews Israel’s License to Kill (OR Books, 2011), Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History (University of California Press, 2005, expanded paperback edition, 2008); The Holocaust Industry: Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering (Verso, 2000, expanded paperback edition, 2003); Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict (Verso, 1995, expanded paperback edition, 2003); with Ruth Bettina Birn, A Nation on Trial: The Goldhagen Thesis and Historical Truth (Henry Holt, 1998); and The Rise and Fall of Palestine: A Personal Account of the Intifada Years (University of Minnesota, 1996).

The Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in this way, and this is the manner in which he recited it. Therefore, whoever reads the Quran should be eager to fulfil the promise of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): "Whoever recites the Quran correctly and proficiently will be with the bountiful, dutiful writers (the angels of the preserved tablet)." Based on a practical understanding of phonology, we have color-coded some letters to facilitate the correct recitation of the Holy Quran. These letters were then classified into three categories to enhance the reader's knowledge and ability to remember these tajweed rules: Letters that require extended vocalization—red. Letters which are nasalized—green. The emphasis of the letter (R)—dark blue; the unrest/echoing/qalqala letters—blue. Letters that are written but not vocalized—grey. Readers will learn to recite the Quran fluently using the colors to apply the appropriate rules. The reader's eye will be engaged with the colors, applying the 24 rules of tajweed with ease and precision while their mind is free to contemplate the meaning of the verses. • Christianity and Islam According To the Bible and the Quran

Christianity and Islam According To the Bible and the Quran

The Bible is the basis for the teachings of Christianity, and the Qur'an is the main source of Islamic Religion and Law, this book compares Islam and Christianity according to a comparative study of the Bible and the Qur'an.PrefaceA religion should not be judged by the opinions and attitudes of its biased enemies. Neither should it be judged by the behavior of some of its nominal followers because there are bad people among every religious group, nor making a judgment based on those people are misleading as they may be violating their religion. A religion should rather be judged by its teachings as well as the effects of these teachings on its real followers.Since the Bible is the basis for the teachings of Christianity, and the Qur'an is the main source of Islamic Religion and Law, this book compares Islam and Christianity according to a comparative study of the Bible and the Qur'an. This approach ensures that the comparison is based on facts and not on prejudice or misunderstanding. It should be emphasized that when this book talks about Islam, it does not give exaggerated or insincere information to persuade the reader, but rather presents the real teachings of Islam. Everything mentioned in this book, about Islam, is supported by Verses from the Qur'an which was revealed about fourteen hundred years ago. Likewise, everything mentioned about Christianity is supported by verses from the Bible. The Purpose of this BookThe purpose of this book is to achieve the following objectives using the Qur'an and what survived in the Bible from the teachings of the Prophets (peace be upon them), with the help of our common sense, reason and intellect: To confirm that Prophet Jesus (pbuh) was a great Messenger of Allah, that he was the Christ, that he was given the Gospel, that he was born miraculously without a father and that he gave life to the dead by Allah's leave and healed him who was born blind and the leper by Allah's leave. To confirm that the original Gospel revealed to Prophet Jesus (pbuh) was lost and that the existing gospels include few parts of that original Gospel mixed with people's texts and interpretations, which contain a lot of errors and contradictions. To disprove misrepresentations and lies in the Bible against Allah. To disprove false charges in the Bible against the Prophets, Lot, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, and Job (peace be upon them). To disprove false charges in the Bible against Prophet Jesus (pbuh). To point out the wrong beliefs which were added (intentionally or unintentionally) into the message of Prophet Jesus (pbuh). To disprove the doctrines of Trinity, Original Sin, Blood Atonement and Divine Sonship of Prophet Jesus (pbuh). To prove that the Qur'an is the Word of Allah and the last revealed Book this has never been changed or adulterated. To prove that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the awaited Prophet prophesied in the Bible. To present the real Islam through the Qur'an and remove lies and misrepresentations wrapped around Islam by its enemies.

Atlas of the Quran: Places, Nations and Landmarks

An Authentic Collection of the Qur'anic Information with Maps, Tables and Pictures...This atlas is new in its subject, a subject that has not been touched before. It helps whoever recites the Qur'an or studies it to specify the locations mentioned by the Noble Verses, and to mark those places of ancient people mentioned in the Qur'an. This is besides locating areas where the incidents of Prophet Muhammad's life occurred. Eventually the diligent reader will easily recognize those places, learn about them, and take heed of them while reciting. The atlas has also revealed obscure places we used to pass through inattentively, like the site where the Ark of Prophet Nooh settled, the site of the curved Sand-hills (Al-Ahqah), the cave of the young faithful men (As'haab Al-Kahf), the houses of Madyan, the site of Sodom (the people of Prophet Loot) and other places determined by the atlas depending on reliable sources. Thus the atlas eliminates all the guessing and the fantasies we used to encounter when reciting the Noble Qur'an, and takes us to the specific place.
